Carnival Triumph: Meet the Musicians part3

Here’s a clip of another one of my musician friends. He’s another American from New York working on the ship. This guy rocks the piano bar bar every night. Here’s a link to his facebook profile if you want to learn more about him: David Ross

Carnival Triumph: Meet the Musicians part2

Here’s a clip of an awesome band from the Philippines called Music Power. In this clip one of the guest plays the guitar and sings with the band outside on the open deck during the deck party.

Carnival Triumph: Meet the Musicians part1

A few weeks ago, I shot a short clip of one of musician friends on the ship right before he went home. What’s crazy is that when I first met him I found out that he lives in the same city as me, San Diego. What’s even more crazy is that he literally lives right down the street from where I live. Here’s a clip in the casino with Craig singing “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Schooners Warf Bar In Key West

If you ever get a chance to go to Key West, Schooners Warf is one of the best locals bar to visit. Here’s a clip of Michael McCloud a musician who frequently plays there. In this clip McCloud sings about a woman who used to work at the bar who had a huge butt. The title of the song, “She Got a Butt.”

Day Trip To New Orleans

Here are a few photos of my day trip to New Orleans. The history in this city is amazing. In the morning I had the chance to visit a slave plantation dating back to the late 1700’s. It’s hard to imagine that slaves once lived here.

Later on during the day, I took a visit to a cemetery. Now why would I do such a thing. Well New Orleans is well known for their cemeteries. A majority of the city lies below sea level so all of the grave sites are build above ground in these elegantly crafted tombs above the ground.

After that, I took a trip to the French Quarters. A quick word of warning, I wouldn’t recommend driving there. The place is not very friendly for cars. But any ways, the music scene was simply breath taking. The whole area was full of life. Everywhere you go there would be musicians playing on the street and believe it or not they were very good, unlike the mediocre talent seen in L.A. Here our a few videos I filmed that really captures the atmosphere in the French Quarters.

To end my day, I went back to the French Quarters later on to check out the nightlife. Like during the day, the nightlife was teeming with energy. Unfortunately my battery on my camera died so I was unable to take any pictures. But just to describe it, New Orleans is very laid back on the laws compared to California. There were people performing impromptu fire shows on the corner street. People were allowed to drink alcohol in the street which is completely unheard of L.A. I checked out this Reggae Bar and I was overwhelmed by the amount of energy it emitted. The musicians were great. The crowd was full of life. It was all a pleasure to experience.

When I think of one phrase that best describes life in the French Quarters, the famous Greek quote immediately comes to mind, “Carpe Diem.” The whole essence of New Orleans captures this philosophy to the fullest.

An American Journalist Challenge: Update

This past week has been pretty tough for me. I have succumbed to writers block. Yes I hate to say it but I have. But needless to say, just the other day I finally made a small break through with the story. I am about seventy-five percent done with finishing the script. I also sent the script to a couple of close friends. Unfortunately some of them are still stuck with the story from the short film. I don’t blame them. I would to if I was involved with a project over the span of a year in and half. Unlike the short, this film examines more of the ex-childhood actor’s death row story instead of the main characters unfortunate past. As a potential to market the script, I thought that ex-childhood actor on death row was a better story to tell. I’m hoping I can have this script officially finished at the end of the month and start sending it out to more legitimate places to get read. We’ll just have to wait and see. I continue to work hard on the script and can’t wait to finally have it finished.

An American Journalist Challenge: 1 month mark

One month into the rewrite and I am getting closer and closer to finally finishing this script. So far I am at 117 script pages. I am almost at the point where I can start tightening up each scene. The story so far has a good rhythm and flow. My next immediate step is to start improving the scenes involving the main character, tighten up some dialogue and work on some scenes showcasing his character flaws. Within the next week or two I hope to have a draft ready to show to some close friends and get some feedback from the script. From there I will take into consideration any notes I may get. And then I plan to send it to one of those professional companies that reads scripts and give notes to get some more additional feedback.

Goals for the next month:

1. Finish a good enough draft to send to close friends for feedback.
2. Send screenplay to script reading company to get additional feedback.
3. Based on notes work on another draft of the script.

Werner Herzog

The other day I went to a double feature at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and had the privilege of meeting one of my favorite directors Werner Herzog. All I can say is wow! I was really impressed. Herzog was the most down to earth person I’ve ever met. That night we were suppose to watch Stoszek and Woyzeck two films Herzog directed in the 70′s,  however the print for one of the films was very poor so Herzog ended up calling one of his producer friends that very same night and had him deliver a copy of Rescue Dawn to the theater so the people wouldn’t be disappointed.  He also had many funny and insightful stories that he shared with the audience after each movie. What impressed me the most was that between the films Herzog took the time to take pictures and answer questions from people in the lobby of the theater. He made an effort to interact with everyone that approached him. He did not have a big ego whatsoever compared to the many other big names that make up Hollywood. His philosophy on becoming  a good director, getting as much life experience as possible has motivated me in my filmmaking career. Overall I was very happy to have gotten to shake the hand of one my all-time favorite directors.

Another Win For Manny Pacquiao!!!!

The other night I watched Pacquiao go in for another victory. This time his challenger was Joseph Clottey from Ghana. Sadly to day, this had to be one of the more boring fights I’ve seen with Pacquiao. To sum it up, the fight seemed more like a glorified sparring session. The whole time Clottey with his peek-a-boo style of boxing was more concerned with just lasting in the ring with Pacquiao instead of trying to win the fight. At one point as Clottey was hiding behind his gloves, Pacquiao double punched him on the side of the head. After being warned from the referee, a mischievous smile was on Pacquiao’s face for what he had done. In the end Pacquiao out punched Clottey winning every single round and eventually getting the unanimous decision for the victory. I had much high hopes for this fight but in the end I was really disappointed.

An American Journalist Challenge: Days 22 – 27

So I decided to change my writing frequency on my blog  for this project. Instead of writing everyday, I’ll just share a weekly update of my status. This week went really well. I have finally gotten into a really good writing routine where I feel very productive every time I sit down to write. My routine consist of going to the library at 12pm and writing for a good solid three hours. I have also eliminated my bad habit of using the internet during my writing sessions. As soon as I get to the library I go straight to work. I wrote about fourteen pages this week. I just have to write a few more scenes to finish my third draft. Overall, I’m feeling pretty good. I am more than half-way with finishing An American Journalist.
