Exploring The Tribal Roots

My Olympic Deput

A Trip Into Paradise

The other day I had the chance to film a tour in Playa del Carmen Mexico. The tour didn’t start until 8am. I decided to wake up at 7am to get some breakfast before I headed out. As I go down to the mess I notice its completely empty. I’m wondering to myself what the heck is going on. And then I look out the window and I notice we’re still out on sea. Okay, something’s not right. And then it struck me. The clocks were put an hour back the other night and I just lost and extra hour of sleep. Damn you time changes. So I sat in the mess and ate breakfast and just hung out there until it was time for the tour. Like usually I thought I had all the time in the world to relax, and by the time I stepped off the boat I found out I had to go to another pier to catch the ferry. I hauled ass to the ferry and barely caught it with minutes to spare.

The ferry to mainland Mexico took roughly 45minutes. As usual I grabbed some generic shots of people and the landscape around me. Once we arrived, there were two tour guides who took us to our own jeeps. Unfortunately I was filming so I could not drive. I ended up with one of the tour guides on the jeep. When we arrived at our location and I was surprised to see not much there. Is this it I thought? But then the tour guide took us down this little trail to this little rock with an opening in it. As we walked in, I was amazed. Where did this come from? From the outside you couldn’t tell there was this huge cavern underneath us. Further down the cave there was this underground river. Everyone put on life jackets and went into the water. The tour guide took as along this river which was completely dark and only luminated by the flashlights people where shining. Stalagmites covered the ceiling. The water we were in was twenty feet deep and cold as hell. Well not that cold, more like seventy five degrees according to the tour guide but when you just came from ninety degree weather outside the body definitely notices a huge change.

After the caverns, we proceeded to head down to this seclusive beach in the middle of nowhere. Now when I think of paradise, this beach fits the bill. It was a tropical paradise away from the busy cities. I went to lie down in a hammock and looked out to the Caribbean Sea and couldn’t help think to myself that life is sure great right now. I am in the middle of paradise. The water was crystal blue. The sand was soft and white. Tropical trees surrounded me. What else could I ask for? Well there was one thing. Seeing that I haven’t driven a car in three months, I had the urge to climb into the front seat of the wheel. So as we were about to leave, I asked the tour guide if I could drive the jeep back to the dock. Sure enough he was cool about it. I can’t tell you how awesome it felt to drive a car. It’s amazing the little things you miss when you’re out on sea. Even though I’ve been gone for three months, it sure feels like a lot longer.
